Lads tour of Pompeii

We stopped in Napoli 10 minutes from Napoli central station (Garibaldi) because we used the Alibus from the Airport to this location €5 ew.
The train to Pompeii was €3.30 ew and frequent however it was jam packed each day just about standing room only.
Outside of Pompeii station a very short walk to the site, lots to see this site covers a vast area i don’t think we covered a third of it! But just wow. It was very hot and hard going under feet, but it was what we come to do. If you have the opportunity to cone just do it. We went to the town later to get some food again just a great day out.

Amazing piece of history with a side of snarl. Must visit!

Visiter Pompeii for the first time and had a great experience.

The site is an incredible visit for anyone even remotely interested in world history. Although obviously damaged as you would expect from archaeological ruins, it is truly mind boggling that these structures still stand today. You can even find original preserved artwork on the walls of some of the houses.

As others have mentioned, be sure to wear comfortable shoes, although we didn’t find it too difficult to get around.

I would set aside about 3 hours from entry, to really get a good look at what the site has to offer. Having said that, I firmly believe you could easily spend a day if you want to get into the finer details.

There are a couple of fountains where water can be refilled, but it pays to bring at least a litre.

There is not many places to have a seat and rest as would be expected from a preserved historical site. More just for info.

Honestly the only reason for the 4 stars was the super rude staff at the ticket booth. We simply politely asked on exit if there was a toilet nearby, to which she snarled and said it was inside the park. It seemed to be a large issue for her that I asked if I might be able to duck back in through the gate so I yielded and told her not to worry about it at which point another nice staff member said it would be totally fine to go to the toilet.

Great experience

We stayed all day and needed it. Sensibile shoes are needed as the terrain is very uneven . We booked with the company above the train station who were really good and explained everything. We didn’t bother with a guide but at times wished we had. A dream for filled as the ruins are massive with loads to see.
Not much in the way of food and toilet facilities but we saw work being carried out for more.
Just to clear up some confusion, the villa of mysteries and Diamodes can be accessed from inside the far side of the park but you need to tickets to access them and once outside the park from there you can get a bus to the rural villa but we didn’t bother. You have to pay extra on your ticket to visit them but they are well worth it as the wall frescoes are well preserved. Staff in the park were all friendly and helpful.

Walk in the footsteps of the Romans

No matter how many times one visits Pompeii it is totally impressive and always something new to see

May was a good time to visit for although the sun shone it was not the searing heat you get in August and the crowds were sparse
Walking in and out of the houses and looking at the mosaics one cannot fail to be impressed. The plaster casts of the bodies and dog bring home the tragic events that have occurred on this site
