Second visit here and lots we hadn’t seen the first time, fascinating place a day wasn’t long enough could go back again!
Lovely time
I was excited to visit, as every itenarary lists this as a must. All in all, rather disappointing. It is not worth a day trip from Rome. There is an undertone to the whole place, from the train station, to the tours, and the infamous Restorante Sgambati. You feel bent over a barrel, and they don't even smile while doing it. Roman Forum and Palatine Hill are a much better alternative for history buffs and ruin aficionados. Skip the bad vibes and subpar tours of Pompeii. In the end, it's no more special than Machupichu, Mystra Greece, etc., just highly indulgent in taking advantage of the tourists.
